Pro Tools Book Discussions
Is Pro Tools Really Worth It?
I'm currently running a Windows OS and i use the program Cubase (SX), I'm getting a Mac Book pretty soon for college, and i was wondering if anyone had some more experience with both programs and if it's really worth getting all new equipment (I'd most likely get the Presonus Firepod) and software
Music Production on Home Computer
I'm an amature music producer. I use my computer and a cheap microphone that I bought from Wal-Mart for recording my vocals. I'm an aspiring female rap artist who's looking for more in the industry. I would love to get some seriously honest feedback on my music. Are there any other music producers that might have some tips for me on how to tweek my music to make it sound more professional. I know for sure that I need a better microphone. What else can I do as far as mixing and mastering to obtain that professional sound? feel free to visit my page at: http://www.myspace.com/ladycalcal I would love any type of feedback from anyone that knows anything about music. Thanks!
new
Does anyone know if Linkin Park are coming out with anything new?
What Programs do you use?
I use FL Studio and a Casio WK 3500, and i have a EMU X Board 49 Midi controller and a KorgPad Kontrol board. I have a ton of samples and sounds with some tight 808 kicks and claps and snares and synths. I am wanting to get protools and i'm saving up to get the new Yamaha Motif XS88!! can't wait!!!
OSX will no longer be for PPC CPUs only?
2 years ago or a bit more a project was launched to emulate the OSX on the x86 architecture and the result was a DARWIN + TigerOSX (Jas) 10.x.x but it was still buggy and slow and had a lot of compatibility problems, and by time it got better and better till they reach a level of stability and 10.4.5 was the satrting, now and when INTEL start using the CORE 2 DUO that's the native architecture used for the MacPro compatibility becomes better than it was ever, for a C2D E6600 with a motherboard GIGABYTE P35-... and a SATA HDD 500 GB and a 2x1GB DDR2 800 and a Geforce XFX 7xxx, an LCD HP screen 24" would make a combination better than any other native Mac desktop or even a laptop, the stable release now is the 10.4.10, I'm downloading it right now, and I've started collecting my new PC combination to replace the old one that I made it last year, so anybody had tried that or wanna try plz share! The advantages of an OSx is its EYECANDY looking, their pro tools when it comes to AUDIO/VIDEO editing and a lot...etc
The upcoming NIN album... who can't wait?
Trent said this about the new album that he has coming up:Will it be a heavy album? "It's not heavy in any kind of metal tyoe sense, I'd say a big inspiration sonically would be early Public Enemy records, a collage of sound type of thing, not heavy in a metal guitar kind of way."On 'The Downward Spiral' and 'The Fragile' you blended together an extreme amount of disparate sounds and layers - is this moving further in that direction? "Well Alan Moulder (long-time collaborator) was stunned when he first heard it. Normally a Pro-Tools session has alot of tracks and this time he was like 'You're kidding me, it's only this much stuff?'. The end result has a bit of racket to it, it's much more improvisational, less refined. With this record i feel alot less concerned about what people think about it - espcially the dying record industry. I couldn't care less about that right now."I can not wait! This sounds like the new album is going to be heavier and harder than With Teeth!!!

Hip-Hop Workshops
Hip-Hop WorkshopsNugent Education have successfully designed and delivered Hip- Hop/ Rap and Music Production Workshops in partnership with numerous schools and organizations, including, St Helens Education Action Zone (EAZ), Halewood Community Comprehensive School, Salford Youth Offending Team, St Vincent’s School for the Blind (West Derby) and many others. Rap and LiteracyWe have developed workshops that use rap as a medium through which to teach literacy and communication skills. The participants learn about some of the literacy tools that rappers use, such as; metaphor, simile, alliteration, rhythm & rhyme, assonance & consonance and so on. “ Rap/ DJing gave a real context to stuff that can be boring.” - Teacher – Moorhead High SchoolThe workshops are designed to encourage self esteem in the participants, so that they become comfortable with performing and recording their written material. Through this process they develop the skills of clear communication; voice projection, correct breath technique, stage presence and confidence and so on; skills which may be carried over into their every-day lives.Participants are encouraged to write about...
