Recording Studio - Tracking & Mixing
Premium large format analog tape machines (1" Eight track, 1/2"
Four track, and 1/2" Two track) =
Bigger tape sounds better. A one-inch 8 track will record and reproduce
a higher fidelity sound than the standard two-inch 24 tracks found
in most studios (that still record to tape). Each track of the the
1" 8-track is about 1.5 times wider than each track of a 2"
24-track. We also calibrate our tape machines before each session
to insure accurate recording and playback.
Digital equipment compatible with any industry standard =
Our digital convertors/sample rates and computer programs change with
the times. We are very experienced in computer recording, editing,
and all manners of audio manipulation. The best and newest programs
and plugins are always available.
Combining the two formats typically gets the best results.
Recording onto tape, dumping each track into the computer for editing,
and then mixing through a real board to 2-track tape is typically
the best way to go. For more elaborate projects with lots of instruments
and over-dubs, going from tape to computer, back and forth a few times
can yield great results. Keep in mind
that the Beatles' recordings (Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Let It Be, etc.)
went from one tape machine to another, back and forth, typically 4
or 5 times, sometimes up to 13 times! It can be done and still sound
good ONLY if your signal path is as pristine as possible; the best
cables and the best equipment with the best components.
